DR AVIKAR SINGH

Dr Avikar Singh is a compassionate and meticulous specialist urologist based in Umhlanga, Durban. He obtained his fellowship and Master's Degree in Urology from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in 2019 after completing his training as a urologist at Grey’s Hospital, Pietermaritzburg. He had previously completed his undergraduate degree in Medicine at the University of Cape Town in 2011.

Dr Singh's research has been published in various journals, including the South African Journal of Surgery, where he presented a retrospective review of nephrectomies. In 2016, he was awarded the Van Blerk Award at the South African Urological Association (SAUA) Biennial Congress for his research.

His research interests include minimally invasive surgery, penile cancer, and adrenal tumours, among others. During his registrar time, Dr Singh attended several national and international congresses and workshops, including the European Association of Urology in Barcelona, Spain, and training in Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy in Italy. He also participated in the European Urology Residents Education Programme (EUREP) in Prague, Czech Republic.

Dr Singh successfully completed his specialised urology training within the required timeframe and is officially registered as an Independent Specialist Practitioner with the Health Professions Council of South Africa. He served as a Consultant Specialist Urologist in the public sector at Saint Aidan's Hospital until December 2022. He obtained a fellowship in minimal-access surgery in Dubai in 2022, and a diploma in Urological laparoscopy from Strasbourg in 2023. Currently, he practices at Life Westville and Busamed Gateway Hospital. Additionally, Dr Singh holds an honorary lecturer position at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, actively contributing to specialist training, examinations, and research endeavours. His unwavering dedication is focused on providing evidence-based care to his patients.
