DR AVIKAR SINGH

Dr. Avikar Singh is a compassionate and meticulous specialist urologist based in Umhlanga, Durban. He completed his undergraduate medical degree at the University of Cape Town in 2011 and went on to earn both his Fellowship in Urology and Master’s Degree from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in 2019, following specialist training at Grey’s Hospital in Pietermaritzburg.

His clinical interests include minimally invasive surgery, penile cancer, robotic prostate cancer surgery, minimally invasive infertility surgery, stone surgery, surgery for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), paediatric urology, and female prolapse surgery. Dr Singh is committed to academic medicine and has published in several peer-reviewed journals, including the South African Journal of Surgery, where he presented a retrospective review of nephrectomies. In recognition of his research, he was awarded the prestigious Van Blerk Award at the South African Urological Association (SAUA) Biennial Congress in 2016.

During his training, Dr Singh actively participated in numerous national and international workshops and congresses. These include the European Association of Urology Congress in Barcelona, Spain; a dedicated training programme in Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy in Italy; and the European Urology Residents Education Programme (EUREP) in Prague, Czech Republic.

Dr Singh is registered as an Independent Specialist Practitioner with the Health Professions Council of South Africa and successfully completed his urology training within the required timeframe. He served as a Consultant Specialist Urologist in the public sector at Saint Aidan's Hospital until December 2022.

In his pursuit of surgical excellence, Dr Singh obtained a fellowship in minimal-access surgery in Dubai in 2022, followed by a diploma in urological laparoscopy from Strasbourg, France in 2023. In 2025, he completed advanced robotic surgery training in France and received formal certification on the Da Vinci robotic surgical system in South Africa. This positions him among the few urologists in the region with formal accreditation in both laparoscopic and robotic surgery.

Dr Singh currently practices at Life Westville Hospital and Busamed Gateway Private Hospital in Umhlanga. In addition to his clinical work, he remains actively involved in postgraduate training and ongoing urological research, with a strong focus on evidence-based, patient-centred care supported by the latest surgical advancements.
